Visit an artistic culture that dates back thousands of years.

Missionaries who were familiar with the cave paintings found in the Sierra de la Laguna mountains above Los Cabos asked the native Cochimi about them and were told they were done by a race of giant people long ago. If you visit these rugged hills set against a backdrop of light, sea, sky, mountains and desert, you will begin to understand how the creative psyche can be awakened, and why Los Cabos has become a mecca for artists and art galleries.

This is the studio home of artist Charles Stewart and his wife Mary Lou, who arrived from Taos, New Mexico in 1986. About his art, Stewart says, "painting is life: it is for the artist to make paint and canvas live. It does not matter whether it be recognizable in concept but in execution, the work must come alive."

One of the finest galleries in town, it shows the work of painter Jill Logan, who has exhibited in New York City, Florida, Oregon, New Mexico and California. She creates original oils and mixed media works that require in some cases months of layering, curing, drying and leafing to complete.

This is the gallery and studio of Nanette Hayles who has lived in Todos Santos since 1990 and exhibited in the United States, Japan and Mexico. Her work features paper tile mosaics, oil paintings, mixed media abstracts, ceramic tile mosaics, and unique “one of a kind” furniture.

A life-long artist, Catherine Wall’s paintings are in private collections in New York, Massachusetts, Washington D.C., California, and Mexico. Her paintings are very colorful, well executed and successfully capture the life and culture of Mexico.

Margaret admits the ocean, palm trees and culture of Todos Santos have added more dimension to her painting. She works in oil on canvas or masonite, in soft pastel on sanded paper, and also prints serigraphs in limited editions. Her works are shown here and Taos, New Mexico.
