It’s no secret that celebrities love Los Cabos. In fact, it’s become such a hot spot for A-listers fleeing the hustle and bustle of Tinseltown that this sun-drenched resort is becoming known as the celebrity hideaway. And while Hollywood stars are certainly a globe-trotting bunch, they return to Cabo time after time because it meets all the elements they desire: privacy, world-class resorts, fabulous beaches, pampering spas and refined Mexican cuisine.

This is a place where they can let their hair down, yet still be in a luxurious and protected environment. It seems there are few places that can boast such a return rate of superstars. Take, for example, Jennifer Aniston. The former “Friends” star has been spotted on countless occasions soaking up the sun in one of her fashionable bikinis, and her BFF Courteney Cox and husband David Arquette are also frequent visitors (the three often travel together or with a group of buddies, staying at a top resort or renting a private villa). Other repeat visitors include Eva Longoria and Tony Parker, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Kobe Bryant.

When pop star Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo (the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys) went on vacation together, they jetted down south — to Los Cabos. And when another famous football quarterback —Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning — was set to say his “I dos” with longtime girlfriend Abby McGrew, he chose a stunning beach setting in Los Cabos in which to tie the knot in front of friends and family (including brother and fellow MVP Peyton Manning.

As word continues to spread about Cabo and all its many attractive attributes (another perk is that it’s a cinch to get to — it’s just a quick two-hour plane ride from Los Angeles), other folks in the limelight have been checking it out for themselves. After their Los Angeles wedding, reality stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt spent their pre-honeymoon relaxing beachside before jetting off to the South Pacific. When singer Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas and Transformers actor Josh Duhamel got engaged, they celebrated here (the wedding took place in Malibu); and while on the beach, Fergie was spotted snapping photographs of the beautiful scenery. Others who’ve been seduced by Los Cabos are comedian Jack Black and wife Tanya Hayden, who spent a relaxing few days away from the bright lights of Hollywood. Jessica Alba flew down for a little R&R after the birth of her daughter Honor, and on again/off again couple, Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson were also spotted swimming in the Sea of Cortés.

In between relaxing on crescent-shaped strands and enjoying delicious cuisine and soothing spa treatments, celebrities like to keep active. Kate Beckinsale and her director husband Len Wiseman boogie boarded and went snorkeling, while Pink and Carey Hart played a round of golf. In fact, the area boasts plenty of fabulous courses including the Jack Nicklaus–designed El Dorado, which has been played by Tiger Woods and Fred Couples.

Also, tourism service companies like Terramar can arrange customized group activities and VIP programs. And Wild Baja offers sporting activities such as kayaking, ATV tours, whale watching and horseback riding. The company works frequently with celebrities and can arrange custom excursions, like a scuba diving trip for frequent visitor Brad Pitt as well as surfing lessons for Adam Sandler.

While Los Cabos is a magnet for bold-faced names, it’s just as popular with other affluent consumers who don’t live under the glare of the paparazzi. They fly down on their private jets from spots like San Francisco or Houston, Palm Springs or Phoenix/Scottsdale for a long weekend. They might be Fortune 500 CEOs, Silicon Valley titans, fashion designers, publishing tycoons and other professionals. They also appreciate the fact that Los Cabos offers so much for those with discerning tastes, particularly when it comes to luxury resorts.

No doubt, the opulent resorts are one of the main reasons people are so enchanted by Los Cabos. The caliber of accommodations here are on par with what you’d find in major cities, which is not always the case in a resort area where service is sometimes not up to par. Cabo’s top resorts offer top-of-the-line service — and once the staff get to know the guest, their experience is even that much more personalized.

At Las Ventanas al Paraíso, an ultra-chic 71-room hideaway with high-end adobe-style casitas with wood-burning fireplaces and shaded patios overlooking the Sea of Cortés, excellent service is one of the hallmarks. Jennifer Aniston adores the spa here, and the therapists know her likes and dislikes. And she often dines at the poolside restaurant with best friend Cox, enjoying fresh salads with local ingredients and margaritas. Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber and Brooke Shields and Chris Henchy are also big fans of the resort, whose name means appropriately enough “windows to paradise.”

Esperanza, an exclusive beachfront resort with 57 rooms overlooking Ballena Point (where whales are known to congregate) is another spot favored by the Hollywood crowd. Actress Elizabeth Berkeley, who has a recurring role on “CSI: Miami,” and Greg Lauren, nephew of Ralph Lauren, got married here, and Gwyneth Paltrow and musician Chris Martin honeymooned in a spacious villaThe nearby One&Only Palmilla resort opened by the son of a former president of Mexico, was the area’s first luxury hotel in 1956. The ultra-exclusivity of visiting here (you had to arrive via private jet or yacht as there was not yet an airport able to accommodate jumbo jets) made it a magnet for the likes of Bing Crosby, John Wayne and Lucille Ball. They came mainly to relax, but larger-than-life figures like Ernest Hemingway were enticed by the world-class game fishing, while President Dwight Eisenhower enjoyed playing a few rounds of golf. Today, the resort is one of the most luxurious spots along the so-called Tourist Corridor, the 21-mile seaside highway that connects Los Cabos’ two main towns, the colonial San José del Cabo and the more commercial Cabo San Lucas. One&Only Palmilla continues to boast a celebrity clientele who appreciate the glamorous infinity-edge pool with a swim-up bar just steps from the beach; C restaurant from Chicago Chef Charlie Trotter, featuring a seafood-Mediterranean menu; and the gorgeous Mandara spa with indoor/outdoor treatment suites. It’s little wonder megastars like John Travolta, Giselle Bündchen, Hugh Jackman and Celine Dion and Simon Cowell of “American Idol” are former guests.  In fact, Travolta celebrated his 50th birthday with a huge bash for 280 of his nearest and dearest, which included wife Kelly Preston, Oprah Winfrey, Meg Ryan and Barbra Streisand.

So don’t be surprised if on your next visit to Los Cabos, you find yourself sunbathing next to a major Hollywood celebrity — only they’ll probably be so relaxed and low-key you probably won’t recognize them. And that’s just the way they like it.
